Why make this major change in my life now?

That’s a great question. The answer lies in the discoveries I made last year when I reexamined my life and it’s past and current direction. After searching my heart and soul, I discovered that my happiness was lost through stress and failure, namely: bankruptcy, failed business, poor health, no relationship, diminishing physical health, and an overall dissatisfaction about life in general.

One of the major factors leading to these circumstances was that I love what I do, which is teach, but it was getting too difficult to continue making a living at doing it here in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

After some deep examination about the culture and environment I was living in, I admitted to myself the following truth:

The western world’s standard of living has increasing become more about possessions, materialism, personal and professional status, and money… Our sense of community has devolved into self-interest and oblivion of all those we impact.

I long for the sense of joy and purpose that was once found in the work I do and the world I live in… my trip to Thailand revealed a people who still had a sense of family, community, respect, and honour. It has its issues no doubt, but at least it hasn’t lost its soul.

Don’t get me wrong! There is nothing wrong with staying here, trying to make it work by gaining new skills, getting a better job, looking at new opportunities, then getting on with life… It’s just not the kind of life that I want for myself now.
